The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Western Visayas (DPWH-6) yesterday turned over a P36-million regional evacuation center in Bacolod City’s Barangay Vista Alegre. DPWH-6 Director Lea Delfinado said the structure is the fifth regional evacuation center in Negros Occidental.
The other centers are located in San Enrique, Sagay City, Bago City, and Kabankalan City.
She noted, the evacuation centers have the same layout with eight buildings, including a main building that can accommodate 33 families with beds and 130 persons without beds; separate male and female toilets and bath; generator room; pump room; laundry area; materials recovery facility; office; and infirmary building.
Bacolod City lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya pointed out, the budget for the facility was sourced from the national government and implemented by DPWH.
For Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, he said, “Times really have changed that this has become a necessity and a mandatory requirement for the city.”/DGB, WDJ
