Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III issued an executive order canceling this year’s Sinigayan Festival, which was scheduled to take place from March 14 to 19, due to the ongoing threat from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). He stated, “It is necessary to minimize, if not eliminate, the risk of contracting Covid-19.”
The order cited an advisory from the Department of Health “strongly urging the public to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees.” The advisory also recommended “the cancellation of such planned big events or mass gatherings until further advice.”
Meanwhile, while the order declared events that “draw a huge number of attendees” canceled, religious activities and the ongoing “Voice idol of Sagay” will proceed.
Earlier, the Bago City Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution canceling their Charter Day anniversary, which was scheduled to run from February 11 to 19. However, in Valladolid, the local anti-coronavirus task force unanimously called for the town’s annual Pasundayag Festival to proceed./DGB, WDJ
