A suspected snatcher was wounded, while his accomplices managed to escape, after he was mauled Tuesday night by angry bystanders at the corner of Lizares-Mabini Street in Bacolod City. Police identified the arrested suspect as 28-year-old Alvin Calumba, a resident of Purok Magsungay in Bacolod City’s Singcang-Airport.

Additionally, Calumba reportedly had three accomplices although police were only able to identify one, a certain Ronel ‘Dodoy’ Behit, while the other two remain unidentified.

Police Station 6 (PS6) personnel said the suspects allegedly snatched a 14-year-old girl’s mobile phone and wallet. However, after the victim reportedly shouted “Kawatan (Thief),” bystanders chased down the suspects. As the suspects boarded their getaway tricycle, the pursuing mob managed to grab Calumba while the three others drove off in an undetermined direction.

The suspect was beaten repeatedly until police arrived and pacified the attackers.

Calumba sustained multiple wounds to his head and body and was transported to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

He currently faces theft charges and is under the custody of PS6.

Meanwhile, police are conducting follow-up operations against the three remaining suspects./DGB, WDJ
