The Sagay City police arrested two individuals last Monday for allegedly engaging in illegal logging activities in far-flung areas of the city’s Barangay Andres Bonifacio. Police identified the suspects as Romel Vauleta and Allan Amante, both residents of Escalante City’s Barangay Balintawak.
Acting Sagay City Police Station chief, Police Major Antonio Benitez, said his team, together with members of the Sagay City Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), visited the area after receiving a tip claiming illegal logging activities were being conducted.
Upon reaching the area, the authorities caught Vauleta and Amante, prompting their arrest.
CENRO officials recovered several pieces of wood belonging from a Lawaan tree, along with the chainsaw used by the suspects to cut down the tree.
Both suspects face criminal charges and are detained at the Sagay City Police Station./DGB, WDJ
