Suspects: The drugs

were from Bacolod City

Two former overseas Filipino workers were caught dealing drugs over the weekend in Barangay Sta. Felomena, located in Iloilo City’s Arevalo district. Authorities identified the suspects as Mark Anthony Berlin of Oton’s Barangay San Nicholas and Dondee Boy Salmon of San Miguel’s Barangay San Jose.
The two were arrested for the intention to sell two sachets of suspected shabu worth P1,600 to undercover police officers. Following a search, police recovered five sachets of suspected shabu with street value of P60,000, including the buy-bust item.
The pair claimed they received their supply from Bacolod City and were planning to sell their wares during Iloilo City’s annual Paraw Regatta Festival, which was earlier postponed.
Due to ongoing concerns surrounding the 2019 new coronavirus, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said this year’s Paraw Regatta Festival, which was set to take place in Iloilo City from February 23 to March 1, was suspended.
“We could probably have it in March if the situation will be better,” he said. “We will make the decision when the time comes.”
The annual event, which is considered the “old traditional craft event in Asia,” is set to celebrate its 48th year./WDJ
