In observance of National Arts Month, the annual Kuris Theater Festival and Workshops kicks off later this month, February 18, in Bacolod City. The event seeks to educate and train young writers and playwrights through a series of workshops and performances.
This year’s theme is “Theatre Without Boundaries,” which looks to showcase topics such as mental health, human rights, children, women’s and LGBT issues, the environment, family and values, existence, and love.
Women Playwrights International President August Andong will deliver a keynote address.
Also scheduled are a tribute to Peque Gallaga; and workshops on production design, stage management, technical theatre, movement dramaturgy, and playwriting.
The event is a collaboration of the Teatrokon: West Visayas Theatre Network, The PerfLab, Women Playwrights International-Philippines. University of St. La Salle, and International Theatre Institute-International Playwright’s Forum with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Negros Occidental provincial government, Bacolod City government, Sacred Heart Seminary, and The Negros Museum.
