Due to concerns surrounding the 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV), the upcoming 2020 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, which was initially scheduled to run from February 15 to 22, will be postponed. The decision came following a meeting between Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, Aklan Schools Division Superintendent Miguel Mac Aposin, and the Aklan Sports Committee.
“We have rescheduled the WVRAA, as advised [by] health authorities, to a later date considering the present situation,” the schools superintendent explained. “The province of Aklan is still addressing nCoV.
He noted, however, they were prepared to host the event.
“All systems [were] go for the playing venues and billeting quarters but [the] safety of athletes and sports officials are our top priority and we will hopefully move the WVRAA before the end of [the] school year,” Aposin added.
Around 6,000 student-athletes and sports officials are expected to participate./ASC, WDJ
