Iloilo dominates taekwondo
Taekwondo athletes representing Iloilo dominated in the 2020 Western Visayas Private Schools’ Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) Meet winning 35 gold, 13 silver, and two bronze medals.
In the poomsae division, which is comprised of basic attack and defense motions associated with the martial art, gold medals were won by Elaine Margaret Borres, Cindy Joy Diasnes, and Elizabeth Borres in the secondary girls’ event; Cyd Edryc Esmana, Joshua Cachero, and Clyde Anthony Chuafor in the secondary boys’ event; Elizabeth Borres and Chua in the secondary division mixed pair event; June Draico Gantalao, Alfie Diasnes, and Zacharay Aguirre in the tertiary men’s event; Roices Dane Decafe, Margareth Anne Aguana, and Klarien Tambong in the tertiary women’s event; and Aguirre and Aguana in the tertiary mixed event.
Meanwhile, in the kyorugi division, which is a demonstration of sparring, gold medals were won by Raphael Lloyd Pico, Jed Anthony Morata, Aldriene Earl Horlador, Bill Donton III, and Aldriene Horlador in the secondary boys’ division; Mae Anthonette Desalit, Janna Lucelle Ledesma, Sophia Grace Go, Kharla Saberon, Geraldine Mosquera, and GN Robles in the secondary girls’ event; Adriano Horlador III, Merson Nazareno, Pave Rynel Bero, and Xyrus Ferrer in the tertiary men’s category; and Estrelarryne Polla Ericca Sotomil, Arianne Pagharion, Cyril Aguirre, Mitch Nuevo, Therese Octavion, and Czaryle Dinero in the women’s tertiary competition.
Other medal winners in the kyorugi events include Bob Matthew Villaruz, Ronald Kyle Pico, Laurence Firmeza, and Mickael Cerbo won silver in the secondary boys’ event; Xyrus Desierto and Virgilio Tenefrancia III won bronze in the secondary boys’ event; Kirstin Osorio, Elisha Aguilar, and Katrina Mamaril won silver in the secondary girls’ kyorugi event; Jannah Velez won bronze in the secondary girls’ kyorugi event; Mark Sendino, Carl Jason Garino, Jericho Sorilla, and Ralph Nicole Guaro won silver in the tertiary men’s event; and Scarlett Alfaro Valencia won silver in the women’s tertiary competition./ASC, WDJ
