Negros Occidental takes
early medal count lead

Negros Occidental took an early lead in the medal count in the ongoing 2020 Western Visayas Private Schools’ Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) Meet in Capiz. As of 12:00 noon yesterday, the province tallied a total of 15 gold, five silver, and two bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Iloilo trails in second place with seven gold and 17 silver medals.
Among the most recent gold medals picked up by Negros Occidental athletes include the women’s tertiary badminton singles and men’s tertiary doubles events, both won over Iloilo in the finals.
In addition, Angeline Alcantara, Davon Pecha, and Laurence Rodas earned gold medals for Negros Occidental in taekwondo, while Luigi Escasinas won silver; the province came from behind to beat Aklan in secondary boys’ basketball, 82-71; and the delegation also advanced to the secondary girls’ volleyball semifinals./ASC, WDJ
