The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) warned local establishments, particularly pharmacies, against hoarding and overpricing facemasks amid concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). DTI-Negros Occidental Industry Development Division officer-in-charge Engiemar Tupas said they are currently monitoring business activities.
“We’re doing weekly monitoring,” the regional official explained. “So far, there is really no supply except at a pharmacy in front of the regional hospital; but [there are] only two boxes are left.”
He pointed out, prices “should be between P40 and P120 depending on the brand.”
“If there is overpricing, DTI will be filing cases against the firm,” Tupas added.
Meanwhile, he said the public can file a complaint if they encounter overpricing.
The Department of Health confirmed the first domestic nCoV case last Thursday afternoon, which compelled Filipinos to visit pharmacies./DGB, WDJ
