A man believed to be suffering from depression climbed an electrical tower operated by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) yesterday morning in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mansilingan. Authorities identified the man as Ives Pelowa, a resident of the said city.
Based on eyewitness accounts, Pelowa climbed the 150-foot tower around 10:00 a.m., prompting local residents to call the police.
Pelowa remained on the tower for at least six hours.
Authorities and his sister tried to negotiate with him; while personnel from NGCP, the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade, and City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office also visited the site to attempt a rescue.
Negotiations were eventually successful and Pelowa descended from the tower.
Once on the ground, he said he climbed the tower after his wife left him.
Pelowa added, he came down after he saw his children pleading for him./DGB, WDJ
