Negros Occidental provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, yesterday revealed additional funding may be necessary for the installation of a new rubberized track oval at the Panaad Stadium. The initial budget was estimated at P30 million but a final figure will be determined once the program of work is submitted to the Provincial Engineer’s Office.
He pointed out, the amount is in addition to the P46 million earlier approved for the installation; however, the budget for the repair of other areas of the facility are contained in a proposed supplemental budget.
“More of less, we need P250 million more for the completion of all the construction,” the provincial official added. “Right now, the Capitol needs an immediate P150 million to jumpstart the repairs.”
He said the additional P100 million will be requested.
Meanwhile, with regard to next year’s Palarong Pambansa, which Negros Occidental is hosting, Diaz said the national government will not provide any funding.
“The Department of Education will have an allocation for the improvement of billeting areas while the Bacolod City School Division will have a budget for water supply, comfort rooms and bathrooms, as well as drinking water during the duration of the sports event,” Diaz explained. “It is the province who will shoulder most of the cost.”/DGB, WDJ
