Sugar Industry Foundation awards P20K in story writing contest

Rene P. Sellado won P20,000 for winning a story writing competition organized by SIFI. His story recounted his life from a sugar farm laborer to a Boeing executive.

The Sugar Industry Foundation Inc. (SIFI) recently awarded Rene P. Sellado P20,000 for winning a story writing competition, which recognizes a former SIFI scholar from the  Asociacion de Hacenderos de Silay-Saravia Inc. whose parents were laborers in the sugar industry.
Judges reviewed a total 23 entries.
Sellado’s story, “Mamumugon,” recounted his life from a sugar farm laborer to a Boeing executive, who now supports other scholars.
According to SIFI, the winning entry will be adapted into a screenplay and produced into a short film, which will be shown as the highlight of the foundation’s golden anniversary celebration in 2021. (PR)
