‘Lewd dancers’ issue apology

The individuals shown in a viral video performing “lewd dances” during the Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City over the weekend met with Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr. yesterday morning to issue a public apology.
The pair, identified by their Facebook handles, “Boomba Wilma” and “Laura Beatrice Bautista,” are from Silay City and had earlier met with Silay City Mayor Mark Golez regarding the incident.
During the meeting, Escalante informed them they were in violation of the city’s public indecency ordinance, which is punishable with either a P3,000 fine or 10 days in jail. After agreeing to pay the fine, they also assured the mayor they would not attend next year’s Dinagsa Festival.
Meanwhile, the mayor was informed that the woman who went viral for holding placards with indecent messages and slogans during the festival also wanted to apologize but he insisted she meet with him at City Hall to issue the apology.
“We would like to remind the public that [the] display of obscene messages on placards, lewd acts, and the like are certainly unacceptable and have corresponding punitive measures,” Escalante stated.
The mayor also said he plans on consulting with the Cadiz City Sangguniang Panlungsod to revisit the public indecency ordinance in order to “further study what can be done to safeguard the interest of [the] Dinagsa Festival as both a cultural and religious event.”/DGB, WDJ
