Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, who attended the Dinagsa Festival in Cadiz City over the weekend, recently advocated for “advanced voting” for marginalized communities, along with the use of a mobile app for overseas voters.
The elections official said she would make the “advanced voting” proposal before the Comelec En Banc, which would allow the disabled, incarcerated, senior citizens, indigenous peoples, and pregnant women to vote.
Guanzon explained, certain groups face “difficulties” visiting Comelec offices.
She added, election officers have been ordered to set up satellite offices or conduct door-to-door campaigning.
The Comelec official expressed optimism it would pass the Comelec En Banc within two weeks. Afterwards, it will be forwarded to Senator Imee Marcos, who chairs the Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation, along with the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, she said a test run of the mobile app is planned later this year in “major cities in the country where the internet signal is strong,” along with Singapore./DGB, WDJ
