Renovations to proceed during festivities
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said renovations at the Panaad Stadium will proceed even when the Panaad sa Negros Festival commences in April. Repairs are set to begin this week by a Manila-based construction firm.
“We will not be using that part of the Panaad Stadium,” the governor explained. “There is no need for work stoppage.”
The provincial government allocated P150 million for repairs and renovations. The entire project is expected to last all year and completed in time for the upcoming Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet and Palarong Pambansa, which Negros Occidental will host in 2021.
Earlier, Lacson announced the Panaad Grandstand would not be available for use in this year’s festival due to renovations. He explained, while the grandstand will be the first area to undergo repairs, other areas of the park will be utilized.
During his first press conference of the year, he said this year’s festivities will be limited to a smaller venue but, noted, “It does not mean a smaller celebration.”
The governor added, organizers will adjust with whatever space is available.
He also revealed, main events will take place at the Panaad Park Stage./DGB, WDJ
