The Western Visayas Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) seized P765,000 worth of suspected shabu yesterday at Purok 5 in Leganes’ Barangay San Vicente. Police identified the arrested suspects as 47-year old Isagani Basbaño of Barotac Viejo’s Barangay San Lucas and 33-year-old Sheila Mae Alvarez of Barangay Boulevard in Iloilo City’s Molo district. Both are currently detained at the Leganes Police Station.
According to RDEU Chief, Police Lieutenant Jersey Besas, the transaction took place early in the morning, 12:10 a.m., at a construction where the pair were temporarily staying. After earlier arranging for a purchase of P35,000 worth of shabu, following their arrest, police recovered a total P765,000 worth of the illicit substance.
He said the two acquired the drugs directly from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City and intended to distribute the drugs during the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City.
Besas noted the two were released from jail last April after agreeing to a plea bargain./WDJ
