Negrense forward Mark Yee came up with a double-double for the Davao Occidental Tigers last Wednesday in their 78-70 win over the Parañaque Patriots in the ongoing 2019-2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League-Lakan Cup at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila. Behind the Sagay City native’s 17 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists were Emman Calo with 13 markers built on three treys, along with Chester Saldua adding 11 points, five steals, and four boards.
“Parañaque played tough,” said Davao Occidental coach Don Dulay. “This is another learning experience for us.”
“It is good playing against those hungry and young teams,” he added.
After the Patriots led 27-21 early in the second quarter, Davao Occidental went on a 16-1 scoring run with a Yee layup giving them a 37-28 advantage with 3:28 left in the period.
With 3:40 remaining in the fourth and the Tigers up 76-63, Parañaque made one final run with seven unanswered points, capped by a Keith Pido jumper. However, an Angelus Raymundo basket sealed the win for Davao Occidental.
Despite the loss, James Abugan scored 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block for the Patriots./ASC, WDJ
