62 portable toilets to be installed

The Iloilo City government announced they will be installing a total of 62 portable toilets across the city for this weekend’s Dinagyang Festival highlights. The city is focused on maintaining cleanliness as, earlier this month, the local government announced they would also be installing trash bins around the city.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas previously said he hopes the initiative will reduce littering during the annual celebration and requested the public’s cooperation in maintaining a “trash-free” festival. He called on city residents to be responsible, stating, “It is not someone else’s responsibility to pick up your litter.”
“As your local chief executive, together with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., we will do our best to give you the kind of fun festival you deserve but I hope that you also help us in keeping our city clean, especially during the Dinagyang events,” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, the Public-Private Partnership Center (PPP Center) in Manila recently approved the Iloilo City integrated solid waste management facility project, which seeks to promote waste segregation, recovery, recycling, treatment, remediation, and the possibility of developing waste-to-energy capabilities.
“This is one of the first local PPP projects approved by the committee,” a representative from the PPP Center wrote in a message texted to Treñas. “This is a major milestone for regional economic development.”
The mayor said bidding will open soon./WDJ
