Forward Renaldo Balkman, who most recently played for San Miguel Alab Pilipinas, alongside recently-drafted Columbian Dyip center George Isaac Go, are set to reinforce the Mighty Sports-Philippines team set to participate in the 2020 Dubai International Basketball Championships.
The competition begins tomorrow, January 23, and is set to run until February 1.
“Balkman is a great player,” touted Mighty Sports head coach Charles Tiu. “He’s a winner and he’s a leader.”
“He’s a true professional who takes care of his body so well,” he added. “No attitude whatsoever; he’s a trooper.”
The Puerto Rican basketball player last suited up for San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in last year’s William Jones Cup, which the Philippine squad won after finishing with a perfect 8-0 record. He was also named MVP of the competition after averaging 19 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.1 steals in the seven games he played.
Aside from Balkman and Go, Andray Blatche, Kai Sotto, Javi and Juan Gomez de Liaño, Dave Ildefonso, Jamie Malonzo, Mikey Williams, Ferdinand ‘Thirdy’ Ravena III, and Beau Belga also make up the roster.
Mighty Sports-Philippines will be competing against Al Ahli of Libya, Syria’s Al-Wathba Sport Club and Al-Ittihad Sports Club, Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut and Beirut Basketball Club from Lebanon, Al-Ittihad Alexandria Club of Egypt, American School of Dubai, along with the UAE national basketball team./ASC, WDJ
