First overall draft pick: Baclig
The AMA Online Education Titans selected Reed Baclig as their first overall draft pick in the 2020 PBA D-League draft yesterday. Early speculation suggested De La Salle University forward Jamie Malonzo was going to be the first pick but instead ended up as the second selection after being scooped up by the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers.
This is the fourth year in a row where AMA and head coach Mark Herrera made the first selection.
In addition, Joshua Villamor, Christian Germino, Christian Camay, John Chris Yambao, Earl Ceniza, Allen Rodriguez, Zheanriz Romero, Joshua Seda, Eduardo Kapunan, Cymond Santos, Kobe Cruz, Richel Cabaluna, Alec Catorce, Lorenzo Orbeta, Michael Rio Simmonds, Luis Abaca, Waldrich Siy, Xavier Albances, and Jefferson Arceo were also drafted by AMA.
Previous AMA selections include Jeron Teng in 2017, who currently plays for the Alaska Aces; Owen Graham in 2018; and Joshua Munzon last year.
Meanwhile, the CEU Scorpions had the third pick and went with former University of the Philippines guard Frederick Tungcab, while Wang’s Basketball Couriers-Letran Knights made the fourth selection with Jayson Bondoc.
