Pico: Aquino era patrol
vehicles have broken down
Following the shooting in Bacolod City’s Barangay 30 last Friday, Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Ariel Pico, said the local police force badly needs additional police vehicles in order to improve response times. During a press conference yesterday morning, the law enforcement official revealed BCPO currently has two roving patrol vehicles.
Pico also revealed some of their Mahindra patrol vehicles, which were turned over during the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III, have already broken down.
The BCPO spokesperson pointed out, the vehicles in use have overstretched their duties.
Pico said they have been turning over requests for procurement every month with the National Police Commission and Regional Internal Affairs Services also recommending additional vehicles for the BCPO.
The police official added, they need at least four vehicles aside from motorcycles.
Last week, BCPO deputy director, Police Lt. Colonel Jovie Espenido, said the BCPO needs additional logistical support for their campaign against criminality and illegal drugs. According to the law enforcement official, since his arrival in Bacolod City, he noticed the BCPO has “several equipment woes,” noting a lack of police vehicles and fuel.
He also noted food supply shortages for police officers conducting operations, along with a lacking incentive system for the ongoing campaign against illegal drugs.
In response to the request, Bacolod City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said he fully supports the needs of the BCPO and, explained, a written request to Mayor Evelio Leonardia is required and they will “immediately act on it.”
He clarified, the city government already provides monthly financial support in the amount of P470,000./DGB, WDJ
