Pingris surprised by call-up

Magnolia Hotshots center Marc Pingris expressed surprised at his recent call up by the Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, to compete in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. The first qualifying round begins on February 20, when the Philippines takes on Thailand.
“Seryoso ba ‘yan (Seriously)?” Pingris said in an interview with ESPN5. “We all know I just recovered from a knee injury so, to me, it’s a big surprise.”
“I feel blessed just to have my name included in the pool,” he added.
The 38-year-old managed to slowly reintegrate himself with the Hotshots last season after recovering from an ACL tear he suffered in 2018.
