Trash bins to be installed around

Iloilo City, more ‘green guards’ sought

The Iloilo City government announced they would be installing trash bins around the city for the upcoming Dinagyang Festival highlights. Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said he hopes the initiative will reduce littering during the annual celebration.
Earlier this week, he requested the public’s cooperation in maintaining a “trash-free” festival and called on city residents to be responsible, stating, “It is not someone else’s responsibility to pick up your litter.”
“As your local chief executive, together with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., we will do our best to give you the kind of fun festival you deserve but I hope that you also help us in keeping our city clean, especially during the Dinagyang events,” the mayor said.
Treñas added, those caught littering will be issued a citation.
Meanwhile, the city is also looking to hire an additional 40 “green guards,” who will be responsible for watching over streets, parks, and plazas. These individuals will serve as sanitation officers and will be authorized to apprehend offenders and issue citations.
