Mother to police: Seek justice instead of making accusations
The family of slain Barangay 2 Kagawad Romeo Canlas cried foul over allegations by police claiming he was involved with illegal drugs. In an interview with Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, the victim’s mother, Marjelyn Canlas, called the allegations “baseless.”
While the elder Canlas acknowledged there were reports suggesting her son had accepted P2,000 in cash from local drug dealers, she pointed out the issue was eventually clarified with police and denied the barangay official ever accepted protection money.
She appealed for police to seek justice instead of making allegations.
Earlier this week, Bacolod City Police Office spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Ariel Pico, said the slain barangay official had been included on Police Station 2’s drugs watchlist since 2018.
He added, aside from drugs, they are also looking at a personal grudge or politics as a motive behind the murder.
Canlas was killed last Saturday by three armed men in the city’s Barangay 26./DGB, WDJ
