Negros Occidental provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, announced salary increases are expected for government employees this year but said the total amount has yet to be determined. He noted, while the increases are not included in the 2020 provincial budget, a supplemental budget will be crafted once the Department of Budget and Management figures an amount.
“We don’t have the figure yet and it’s not clear yet,” the provincial official pointed out.
Effective January 1, 2020, more than 1.4 million employees of the Philippine government—including public school teachers, nurses, doctors, and other civil service workers—are set to receive higher salaries with the approval of the new Salary Standardization Law (SSL).
Last Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the “Salary Standardization Law of 2019” into law, which will roll out in annual salary increases from this year until 2023.
The first disbursement of SSL-5 is retroactive and will took effect on January 1, 2020. This means eligible government employees will already receive the benefit./DGB, WDJ
