Escalante City mishap kills elderly, injures 3

One of the passengers of a tricycle was killed while three others were injured after the vehicle was bumped by a tractor around 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the national road of Sitio Tanquinto in Escalante City’s Barangay Jonob-Jonob.

Police identified the fatality as 64-year old Alicia Mayordomo Layam of Barangay Buenavista in the city. Injured were tricycle driver Rodolfo Albarico, 59, widower of Barangay Buenavista; and his passengers Francisco Guanzon, 58, married of Barangay Paitan; and Gary Mayordomo Layam, 33, son of the victim.

All of them were brought to the city’s Dr. Vicente Gustilo District Hospital for medical treatment but the elderly was declared dead-on-arrival by attending physician.

Police report revealed the tricycle was plying Barangay Buenavista to the city when it was bumped by a tractor driven by Anmar Miraflores, 44, married, of Barangay Baliwagan in the province’s San Enrique town. The tractor, owned by South Negros Bio Power Inc., was heading to San Carlos City from Sagay City.

Police is still investigating the incident while Miraflores was detained at Escalante City Police Station./WDJ
