Negrense volleyball players to compete

Volleyball players from across Negros Occidental are expected to represent the country when the Philippines hosts the 2020 ASEAN Para Games, which are set to begin in March. The team is almost completely represented by players from the province, including athletes from Silay City, Cadiz City, Bago City, Kabankalan City, and Sagay City. There is also one player from Surigao City.
“With our unity as a team, I believe we will be able to bring pride and glory for our country,” team captain Eric Molavin said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency. “It’s also an advantage that the Philippines is hosting.”
Sitting volleyball, commonly referred to as paravolley, pits two teams of six against each other, where a portion of the athlete’s torso must always be in contact with the ground.
This year’s ASEAN Para Games were originally scheduled to kick off on January 18 but “funding constraints and logistical considerations” pushed the event to a later date./ASC, WDJ
