SJI athletes present medals

Student-athletes from the St. John’s Institute (SJI) recently presented the medals they won at Palarong Panlalawigan 2019, which came to a close earlier this month.
SJI athletes gathered several medals in the elementary division.
In boys’ swimming, Ricardo Miguel Quilop won seven gold medals, Andrew James Chu captured five gold and two bronze medals, Jacobo Rodriguez took four golds and three silver medals, and Lloyd Ruzel Pabon finished with one gold and one bronze medal; in girls’ swimming, Rianna Montelibano won five gold and two silver medals, while Angela Christie dela Cruz added one gold and one silver medal; in girls’ gymnastics, Alyssa Miyuki Chavez took home three gold and two silver medals, along with one bronze medal as Samanthan Anne Hechanova bagged two gold and two bronze medals; in girls’ badminton, Nichol Marie Paguio won both singles and mixed doubles events, Arkeexa Valens took silver in singles, and Aiesha Lorraine Chua and Mary Annka Anglo captured silver in doubles; and in boys’ archery, Alec Nathan Rongo nabbed gold in the boys’ team event, along with five silvers and one bronze medal.
Meanwhile, SJI also took home medals in both the elementary and secondary divisions in taekwondo and basketball.
In taekwondo, medals were won in both the poomsae division, which are comprised of basic attack and defense motions associated with the martial art, and the kyorugi division, which is a demonstration of sparring. Cyrus Antwayne Hilado won gold in the secondary boys’ poomsae event and gold in the mixed pair event with Raine Micayella Jalandoni. The latter also won silver in the team poomsae event. In addition, Carl Lucky Masbano won gold in the secondary boys’ kyorugi event, Nisha Marie Catada took gold in the elementary girls’ team poomsae event, and Ronald Gustillo captured bronze in the elementary boys’ kyorugi competition.
In basketball, Santino Miguel Loretizo and Roberto Antonio Roxas were part of the elementary boys’ champion team, while Joshua Baldonado suited up for the championship-winning secondary boys’ basketball team.
