The Department of Education (DepEd) currently has an online survey for mathematics teachers to review and evaluate current curriculum. The survey is being done in compliance with DepEd Memorandum No. 181, which calls for an evaluation of curriculum guidelines and seeks to identify mastered competencies.
Surveys are divided by region.
The assessment will be available until Tuesday, December 31.
According to the results of the earlier released 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment, a study by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development that evaluates education systems, the Philippines finished second-to-last place in both mathematics and science.
Meanwhile, out of 79 countries, the Philippines finished last place in reading comprehension.
In response to the results, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said the county is unable to adapt another curriculum.
“We can’t just adapt the Singapore curriculum or any other international best practice,” she noted during a television interview.
Notably, China, Singapore, and Macau topped the assessment./WDJ
