3.3-magnitude tremor hits Guimaras
Sipalay City was struck by a 3.3-magnitude earthquake on Christmas Day. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the epicenter was pinpointed north of the city and occurred just before 1:00 a.m.
Meanwhile, about two hours later, another 3.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded south of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
Subsequent Phivolcs bulletins reported no damages as a result of the seismic activity nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
Earthquakes that range between 3.0 and 3.9 in magnitude are considered between a Level II and III on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where a few people feel the tremor, particularly those on the upper floors of buildings.
Earlier this month, a total five earthquakes were recorded in and around Sipalay City between December 7 and 8, with the highest measuring 2.7 in magnitude.
