Hundreds of worshippers flocked to various churches within the Diocese of Bacolod on Christmas Eve despite the rains generated by Typhoon Ursula. In his Christmas Day message, Bishop Patricio Buzon said the reason for Christmas originates after “Jesus came to the world to become one of us that we may have life in all its abundance.”
“This living life to the fullest is only possible with Christ,” he explained. “To have life is to receive Christ; the source of life.”
Buzon also renewed his call for an end to killings in Negros, emphasizing it further in his Christmas message.
“Living in fear and violence is not living life to the fullest, it impinges on our sense of security as persons even while we are already inside our homes,” the bishop stated
Buzon said the spate of unresolved killings in Negros and the impunity of the perpetrators has called into question the progress and development “others want us to believe we have already achieved.”
“Violence never begets real progress and sustainable development, peace will,” he added.
Buzon also called on the faithful to “choose life, and denounce fear and violence.”/DGB, WDJ
