The 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup best-of-seven finals series begins on January 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, where the Meralco Bolts and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel meet in a rematch of the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 Governors’ Cup finals. Ginebra won both of those previous battles.
After Barangay Ginebra earned their spot in the finals after sealing a 3-1 win over NorthPort Batang Pier in their semifinal series last Friday, Meralco scored an 89-78 win over TNT KaTropa earlier this week to secure a 3-2 series win.
“In this series, we felt, like, we literally had everything thrown at us,” said Bolts head coach Norman Black. “I give a lot of credit to the TNT coaching staff because the coaching staff of Meralco, as well as the players, really had to work hard to get back to the finals again.”
“When we were down 2-1, everybody focused and stayed positive,” he added. “Everybody was attentive to the game plan and how we needed to execute to make it back to the championship round.”/ASC, WDJ

Meralco Bolts center Allen Durham, who led the team with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists in their Game 5 win over TNT KaTropa earlier this week, is set to lead the Bolts in their 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup finals series against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, which begins on January 7.
