During an event earlier this week where the Negros Occidental provincial government recognized the best performing hospitals and medical facilities in the province, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson noted the need for access to healthcare.
“As a developing country, access to health care, health care facilities, and hospitals have been among the foremost issues besetting our country,” the governor explained.
He also noted, “Medical care is not a trade good and there should be no choice between illness and good health.”
During the event, various medical facilities were recognized in five categories, namely, health information, Health Emergency and Disaster Management Program, non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases and reproductive maternal neonatal child adolescent health, and nutrition cluster.
To the recognized hospitals, the governor said, “You persevered and made your best [effort] to be responsive to the healthcare needs of our people.”/WDJ
