The Iloilo City government signed an agreement pertaining to a memorandum of cooperation earlier this month with Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction, the Manila Observatory, and the National Resilience Council.
The partnership intends to promote knowledge-based capacity-building programs by introducing new technology in support of policy and decision-making. In addition, the Taiwanese agency installed and maintained a smart sensor network, which included rain gauges and quake alarm systems.
The initiative also earned support from the Iloilo Business Park and SM City Iloilo.
Signing the agreement were Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas; National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction director, Dr. Hongey Chen; Carlos P. Romulo Foundation chairman, Amb. Roberto R. Romulo; National Resilience Council President Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga; Manila Observatory Executive Director Gemma Teresa T. Narisma; Megaworld Sales and Marketing Vice President Jennifer Palmares-Fong; and SM Regional Operations Manager for the Visayas Maria Majella P. Liboon./WDJ
