Duterte vows to up monthly

allowances for athletes

President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to increase allowances for national athletes. During a speech last Wednesday, the president said he will work on upping allowances, which is currently P45,000 a month.
“I’ll try to talk things over with Congress,” the president said. “Sana ‘yung allowance ninyo, dapat ‘yung pagkain, libre na (Through your allowance, food should be free).”
“We will try to raise the money,” he added.
Meanwhile, Duterte said he wants more money to fund the country’s campaign for the upcoming Summer Olympics.
During a recent courtesy call with athletes that competed at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, which came to a close last week, P300,000 was provided for gold medalists, P150,000 for silver medalists, and P60,000 for bronze medalists./ASC, WDJ
