Iloilo City and Quanzhou City will soon formalize a sisterhood agreement.
“We initiated the groundwork for activities such as student exchanges, business-to-business meetings, arts forum, among others,” said Salvador Sarabia, Jr., who leads the city division focused on meetings, incentive travel, conventions, and exhibitions, and represented Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas at the Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival last month in Quanzhou City. “We have to follow through with Iloilo City-Quanzhou sisterhood.”
“There should be closer coordination with Quanzhou City for the identification of mutually desired activities and organizations with time frame and expectations,” he added. “The private sector and other public institutions may be encouraged to collaborate.”
Last month, Treñas emphasized the importance of maintaining links to China.
“It is very important that they also learn about Iloilo, especially because China is a very big market for tourism,” the mayor explained.
Earlier, a delegation from Quanzhou was in Iloilo City to sign a memorandum for a student exchange program./WDJ
