Negrense soprano Nenen Espina won the award for Best Female Classical Performer at the 32nd Aliw Awards, which took place last Tuesday at the Manila Hotel. Established in 1976, the awarding body recognizes achievements in live entertainment.
“I am thankful that we have Aliw Awards that gives recognition to classical performances,” she said.
The singer went on to call the achievement a “memorable accomplishment” and recalled her bout with Guillain–Barré syndrome, a neurological disorder that affects the immune system.
“I nearly lost my life and my voice two years ago,” Espina pointed out.
She was nominated alongside Lara Maigue, Jade Riccio, Sweet Samaniego-Buchanan, and Kathy Hipolito Mas./DGB, WDJ
