Based on the latest investigations carried out by Talisay City police revealed the music instructor killed by riding-in-tandem suspects in Talisay City’s Barangay Matab-ang last Sunday may have been a case of mistaken identity.
Talisay City deputy police chief, Police Lieutenant Ray Cordero, said, according to interviews with family and friends of 49-year-old Melvin Arnel Borja, the victim did not have any enemies nor did he receive any prior threats.
The law enforcement official added, the victim was described to be a good person and active in the local church choir.
Meanwhile, a background check was also performed and the victim was found to not be involved in any illegal activities nor did he have a record with law enforcement.
Cordero added, they will review a copy of the closed-circuit television footage submitted by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, which maintains a district jail 200 meters away from the crime scene.
Earlier on Sunday, Borja was gunned down while on his way home aboard a tricycle.
Authorities recovered four unidentified caliber shells from the crime scene./DGB, WDJ
