Filipino boxer Joey Canoy failed to take the International Boxing Organization world minimumweight belt after falling to Nkosinathi Joyi of South Africa earlier this week via unanimous decision at the East London International Convention Centre in South Africa.
In an interview with Watchmen Daily Journal, the General Santos City native claimed he nearly wobbled Joyi several times but was unable to finish him off due to his opponent’s stamina.
“Ilang beses siyang naging groggy pero matibay talaga (He appeared to be groggy several times but he is really strong),” Canoy explained.
He went on to acknowledge falling short of the title but said he was content.
With the defeat, Canoy saw his record drop to 15-4-1, with eight stoppage victories; while Joyi improved to a 29-5-1 record, including 19 wins by way of knockout./ASC, WDJ
