According to Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, African swine fever remains a concern in the province, adding, the provincial task force on African swine fever is still on heightened alert.
“African swine fever is still a concern now because we found out some products that are not supposed to come in are being passed through local couriers,” he explained. “Whether these products are coming through couriers, they still pass through our seaports and airports.”
Live pigs and pork products from areas affected by the disease have already been banned entry into the province
Meanwhile, Lacson also said dengue has also been a challenge to his administration but noted dengue cases across the province have been on the decline.
“Those were the challenges of our administration and we are succeeding so far,” the governor added.
Earlier this month, in response to reports claiming the Bacolod City government wished to “harmonize efforts” in the fight against African swine fever, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer said yesterday on city officials to support the provincial government’s ordinance banning the entry of pork and pork products.
During a press conference, city officials said they planned to make contact with provincial officials in order for their respective task forces to coordinate efforts./DGB, WDJ
