San Miguel hopes to avenge
loss to Thai opponent today
After opening the 2019-2020 ASEAN Basketball League season with a 111-76 thumping by Thai basketball team Mono Vampire, San Miguel Alab Pilipinas will have a chance to avenge the loss as the two sides meet this afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
The Philippine side will be coming into the game fresh off their 90-83 win over the Singapore Slingers last Sunday at the Santa Rosa Multi-purpose Complex in Laguna. Khalif Wyatt led the win with five triples in the fourth quarter and finished with 28 markers; while Sam Deguara bucked early foul trouble and churned out 12 points, 11 boards, and two blocks; Nick King added 10 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists; Jordan Heading produced 10 points; and Jason Brickman contributed nine points, 11 dimes, and three boards.
Trailing 65-55 with over eight minutes left, Wyatt ignited a 16-2 scoring run for Alab Pilipinas with outside conversions and grabbed a 71-67 lead with 4:40 remaining in the game.
Despite Singapore’s Marcus Elliott tying the game at 74-all in the last 3:11, San Miguel responded with a 12-5 blast, which was capped off by a Jordan Heading layup with 28 seconds left.
Xavier Alexander led Singapore with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists; while Anthony McClain had 25 points, 12 boards, and five blocks./ASC, WDJ
