The Philippine Army in Negros condemned the attack allegedly carried out last week by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Eastern Samar. Army Colonel Inocencio Passporte, the newly-installed commander of the Philippine Army 303rd Infantry Brigade (303IB) condemned the violent atrocity in a statement.
A police officer was killed, along with two civilians. 15 others were also injured, including children.
It was also reported, the civilians were on their way to a Christmas party when insurgents detonated an anti-personnel mine and opened fire on a police vehicle.
“It’s a clear violation of human rights and the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law,” Inocencio added.
Earlier, the 303IB was placed on “full alert” in anticipation of the NPA conducting attacks as part of their anniversary on December 26./DGB, WDJ
