The elder brother of former Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan was killed yesterday after he was gunned down by riding-in-tandem suspects in the city’s Barangay Estefania. Police identified the fatality as 70-year-old Roberto Kaishek Tan, a resident of the city’s Barangay Villamonte.
Based on initial information released by Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) spokesperson, Police Lt. Colonel Ariel Pico, Tan was driving home in his white Nissan Sentra when he was ambushed by two suspects aboard a motorcycle. The suspects reportedly drove by the driver’s side of the vehicle and opened fire before fleeing in a westward direction.
Investigators recovered .45 caliber bullets from the scene of the incident.
One of the witnesses revealed to Watchmen Daily Journal that a brief chase ensued but a slow-moving pick-up truck in front of the victim eliminated a potential escape route and the suspects eventually overtook his vehicle and shot him five times.
Fr. Felix Pasquin also reportedly visited the crime scene with the victim’s family and performed final rites before the remains were removed from the vehicle.
Meanwhile, relatives of the victim complained that it took scene of the crime operatives two hours to arrive.
“If they arrived earlier, we could have brought our relative to the nearest hospital,” they claimed.
Neither the police nor the Tan family has issued a statement as of press time.
The former city councilor was linked to illegal drugs by President Rodrigo Duterte last year. He also survived an ambush last year and reportedly fled overseas last February./DGB, WDJ
