Negrense boxers win gold

Negrense boxers Rogen Ladon and James Palicte both on gold in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) last night at the Philippine International Convention Center Forum in Pasay City. Ladon, originally from Bago City, defeated Thailand’s Ammarit Yaodam to win the flyweight division; while Palicte took the light welterweight medal with a unanimous decision win over Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Hai.
Additionally, Carlo Paalam won gold in the men’s light flyweight division, Josie Gabuco captured gold in women’s light flyweight, and Irish Magno took silver in the women’s flyweight.
Among other contact sports, Kemberly Kamahalan, Allaine Cortey, Queen Dalmacio, and Jylyn Nicanor won bronze in women’s fencing in the team sabre event.
The Philippines continued to collect medals in martial arts included Ilonggo fighter Phillip Delarmino and Ariel Lee Lampacan each won gold in the muay thai competition; while Jenelyn Olsim, Islay Erika Bomogao, and Ryan Jakiri each captured silver; Meggie Ochoa and Carlo Pena each added a gold medal in jiu-jitsu; Jamie Lim netted a gold medal in karate in the women’s kumite event; Pauline Lopez bagged gold in taekwondo in the women’s 57kg division, Dave Cea won the men’s 74kg category, Samuel Morrison took the 80kg event; and Adven Alcantara, Kristopher Uy, Laila Delo. and Kirstie Elaine Alora won silver medals in their respective weight classes.
In athletics, Natalie Uy set a new SEA Games record in women’s pole vault, clearing 4.25-meters; Willie Morrison broke the shot put record with his 18.38 meters throw; Sarah Dequinan became the first Filipina athlete since Elma Muros in 2011 to capture the gold medal in heptathlon; Kristina Knott won silver in the 100-meter dash and won gold in the 4×100 mixed relay with Eric Cray, Eloiza Luzon, and Anfernee Lopena; and Mariano Masano captured silver in men’s 1500-meter event.
Swimmer James Deiparine won silver in the 50-meter breaststroke; while Chloe Isleta, Jasmine Alkhaldi, Remedy Rule, and Desirae Mangaoang also took second in the 4×100 medley.
In other events, Paul Marton dela Cruz and his wife Rachelle dela Cruz won gold in archery in the mixed team event of the compound division; Jericho Francisco, Jr. and Jaime Rafael De Lange won gold medals in skateboarding, while Duke Pandeagua won silver, and Rydelle Abarico captured bronze; Rubilen Amit won gold in billiards in the women’s 9-ball pool singles event, while Francisco Dela Cruz added a bronze in carom; the Philippine men’s rugby team retained its gold medal, while women’s side finished with a silver; the men’s ice hockey team finished with a bronze; and men’s and women’s traditional dragon boat race each claimed bronze medals.
