Nearly 1,000 residents from across Moises Padilla’s Barangay Quintin Remo visited the local covered court to participate in a free medical and dental mission over the weekend. According to Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo, “There seems to be no doctor brave enough to accept an assignment in this town.” She went on to call it one of her “immediate concerns” after taking office last June.
The mayor said similar events will be held in all of the municipality’s barangays and noted Barangay Quintin Remo was selected first as it is the farthest and largest barangay in the town.
Garcia-Yulo said she allocated P200,000 for the procurement of medicine, which was augmented by Negros Occidental fifth district Rep. Marilou Arroyo and Provincial Board Member Rita Gatuslao.
In addition, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer served as guest speaker and said it is the responsibility of the government to ensure basic services reach the people, especially those in the far-flung areas.
Meanwhile, Moises Padilla municipal police chief, Police Captain Hansel Lumandas, said peace and order in the town has stabilized. He said there have been no major criminal incidents reported under his watch./DGB, WDJ
