James Deiparine scored the Philippines’ first Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) gold medal in swimming in 10 years after conquering the 100-meter men’s breaststroke event earlier this week at the New Clark City Aquatics Center in Tarlac. He also broke a SEA Games record, clocking in at 1:01:46.
“I really wanted to get the gold after two silvers in the last SEA Games,” he said. “This was the ultimate goal and doing it at home, here in the Philippines.”
Meanwhile, in the women’s 200-meter butterfly, Remedy Rule lost by two-hundredths of a second to Jing Wen Quah of Singapore to claim silver, while two-time Olympian Jasmine Alkhaldi ended with a bronze in the women’s 100-meter freestyle./ASC, WDJ
