Yulo wins second gymnastics gold
After earlier winning the individual all-around in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games artistic gymnastics competition, Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo picked up his second gold medal last Tuesday in the floor exercise at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. In addition, he also won silver in the pommel horse and rings.
In the floor exercise, he finished above Tikumporn Surintornta of Thailand with a score of 14.700 to 13.833. However, in the pommel horse, he fell short of the gold by around 0.7 points behind Malaysia’s Tan Fu Jie.
Meanwhile, it was even closer in the rings event as Yulo came in second to Đặng Nam of Vietnam by a margin of 13.867 points to 13.733.
“Masaya naman po (I am happy),” Yulo said. “Okay naman po ako sa performance ko kasi hindi po talaga ko nag-eexpect (My performance was fine before I really did not expect to place).”
“Gusto ko pong magpasalamat sa kanila kasi nanood pa rin po sila (I would also like to thank those who came to watch the competition),” he added.
Other Filipino gymnasts also placed in the individual events with Reyland Capellan coming in fifth in the floor exercise and Jan Gwynn Timbang finishing eighth in the pommel horse./ASC, WDJ
