PHL continues to dominate arnis competition

Agatha Wong won her second gold medal for the Philippines in wushu in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games yesterday at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. After winning the women’s taolu taijiquan over the weekend, she won her second gold in the women’s taijijian event. Taijiquan refers to a demonstration of movements, while taijijian utilizes a two-edged sword.
Meanwhile, Johnzenth Gajo, Jones Inso, and Thornton Sayan won bronze in taolu duilian, which is a pairs event.
In lawn bowling, Rodel Labayo and Angelo Morales delivered gold for the Philippines in the men’s pairs event; Elmer Abatayo, Hommer Mercado, and Christopher Dagpin won silver in men’s triples; Marisa Baranda, Sharon Hauters, Hazel Jaconoy, and Rosita Bradborn captured silver women’s triples; and Nenita Tabiano and Vilma Greenlees won bronze in the women’s pairs competition.
The Philippines also medaled in kurash, which is a wrestling style originating from Central Asia, with Bianca Mae Estrella winning silver; while Al Rolan Llamas, Lloyd Catipon, Sydney Sy, Helen Dawa, and Rick Jayson Senales each took home a bronze medal.
The arnis competition continued to be dominated by the Philippines with Crisamuel Delfin, Mary Allin Aldeguer, Sheena del Monte, Jedah Mae Soriano, Ross Monville, and Abegail Abad each capturing a gold medal; while Mark David Puzon and Ryzza Jezzel Sanchez each finished with a silver.
In other results, Kim Mangrobang and John Chicano each netted their second gold medal in triathlon as they teamed up with Claire Adorna and Fernando Caseres in mixed team triathlon; Margareth Colonia finished with a silver in weightlifting, while Nestor Colonia captured bronze; Celedonio Tayao nabbed a silver medal in shooting; and Mary Francine Padios won silver in pencak silat.
