Olympic silver medal-winning weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz captured gold earlier this week in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games in the women’s 55 kg division at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Metro Manila.
“Sobrang saya kasi siyempre pinaghandaan ko ito, kaya malaki ‘yung bunga ng paghahanda ko (Obviously, I am very happy because I have been getting ready for this—it’s a big result from my preparations),” she said. “Nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa mga tao na pumunta sa event ngayong araw na ito, maraming-maraming salamat sa suporta niyo (I am very appreciative for the people who came to the event, many thanks for the support).”
The Filipina athlete finished with a total 211 kilograms, lifting 91 in the snatch event and 120 in clear and jerk. She finished ahead of Vietnam’s Thi Thuy Nguyen and Juliana Klarisa of Indonesia./ASC, WDJ
